Honda announced plans to introduce five new electric vehicles in China in October as part of its new e:N Series of battery-powered vehicles.
The first two will be available next year as the e:NS1 and e:NP1. They are built by Honda's two joint ventures in China (Dongfeng Honda and GAC Honda), and are practically identical: an all-electric version of the HR-V subcompact crossover.
Along with these ready-to-launch EVs, Honda unveiled three attractive concept vehicles that preview the company's next-generation electric vehicles based on the e:N Architecture, an EV platform created specifically for the e:N Series.
They are dubbed the e:N Coupe, e:N SUV, and e:N GT. They foresee a two-door coupe and an SUV, with at least one of them going into production in 2024 at new dedicated EV manufacturing facilities being built at both GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda.

These concept automobiles, all of which share the e:N Design identity, have monolithic proportions, harsh edges, and front end layouts, including the light signatures. The e:N SUV is likely to be the first to arrive, which is why Honda showcased it at last month's Guangzhou Motor Show. That is where the China Auto Show YouTube channel shot the walkaround video below.
The concept is extremely wild and bears little resemblance to Honda's present styling language save for the emblem. It is more reminiscent to the Tesla Cybertruck than any of the existing vehicles from the Japanese automakers. The e:N SUV is characterised by sharp edges, a low glasshouse, and a distinctive tailgate with a window that does not span the vehicle's width.
Speaking of edges, the glass "shields" affixed to the front and rear fenders that form sharp ends at the headlight/taillight level are almost certainly cosmetic; we can't imagine such an element being declared roadworthy, particularly at the front.
Because the windows are completely tinted, we are unable to inspect the interior, most likely because Honda has not yet created a prototype cabin.
Honda expects to produce production versions of the e:N SUV, e:N GT, and e:N Coupe concepts over the next five years, giving the company ample time to refine their designs. Honda intends to launch a total of ten e:N Series cars in China, with the hope of exporting some, if not all, of them abroad. Would you like to see the e:N SUV among them?
